About VIGDIS

Vigdis (born in Hamburg in 1989) is a visual artist and mother. She studied art at the academy in Maastricht and sports management in Cologne. Both fields of study influence her artistic work, which is characterized by a balance between structure and freedom, physicality and intuition.

She does not see her painting as a reflection of visible reality, but rather as an attempt to create her own visual worlds. These open up emotional spaces in which comfort, tension, chaos, and longing can coexist. Her works are characterized by delicate, atmospheric color gradients in which symbols such as the snake appear. This recurring motif moves between temptation and healing and refers to her interest in ambivalence and multi-layered forms of expression.

At the heart of her artistic approach is an exploration of opposites: everyday life and intuition, structure and freedom, security and departure. These areas of tension are reflected not only in her painting, but also in her reality as an artist and mother—two roles that for her do not exist side by side, but are inseparably linked.

The result is works that do not rely on explicability or clarity, but on immediate experience. Her paintings invite viewers to feel atmospheres and emotional states and, in this way, to experience something of what it means to be human.
